Brewmaster and Managing Member
Alewerks’ first employee is now at the helm. After many years as Alewerks’ Brewmaster, Geoff assumed the mantle of Managing Member in 2016, ensuring the growth of the business is always on the same path as the beer. A Delaware native, West Virginia University graduate, and a man of few words, Geoff prefers to let the beer do the talking. Geoff’s proudest accomplishments are his treasured family and the barrel aged sour ale Lover’s Greed.
Operations Director
Michael joined Alewerks in 2015 when brewery founder Chuck Haines decided it was time to retire. As the Operations Director he is responsible for coordinating all departments to meet goals and achieve continual advancement and development. He’s savvy with a spreadsheet, inventive with solutions, and has a proclivity for making himself laugh. Michael majored in English at CNU after many semesters of business classes; he claims the switch made him an empathetic communicator. He enjoys crossword puzzles, travel, and scrutinizing maps but most of his time away from work is spent playing with his three children. Michael is quick to opt for a Superb IPA but points to the Brewers Series as the types of beers that drew him to Alewerks.
Lead Brewer
Kyle is the scholarly Lead Brewer at Alewerks, having honed his craft with a stint at the Brewlab brewing school in the UK prior to joining the team. The Virginia Tech grad and lifelong Hokie was also part of the university’s home brew club where he studied the finer points of beer profiles and guidelines. Kyle is quick to correct the misinformed who assume brewing beer means one drinks it all day, rather it’s a lot of hard work. He is big into ambers and the red category of beers, pointing to Red Marker Ale as his go-to Alewerks favorite.
Sales Manager
Karen is Sales Manager is Alewerks and a lover of the great outdoors. The Middleburg, Virginia native owns a 75-acre farm near Marion, Virginia and says she’d be homesteading if she wasn’t helping Alewerks get their brews into the hands of distributors and retailers across the region. Karen attended nearby William & Mary for undergraduate and graduate school and also loves hiking, running and fundraising for philanthropies. A whisky girl at heart, she’d be the BBP if she were an Alewerks beer – a simple but also complex beer with nuances that all come together.
