Brewmaster and Managing Member
Alewerks’ first employee is now at the helm. After many years as Alewerks’ Brewmaster, Geoff assumed the mantle of Managing Member in 2016, ensuring the growth of the business is always on the same path as the beer. A Delaware native, West Virginia University graduate, and a man of few words, Geoff prefers to let the beer do the talking. Geoff’s proudest accomplishments are his treasured family and the barrel aged sour ale Lover’s Greed.
Operations Director
Michael joined Alewerks in 2015 when brewery founder Chuck Haines decided it was time to retire. As the Operations Director he is responsible for coordinating all departments to meet goals and achieve continual advancement and development. He’s savvy with a spreadsheet, inventive with solutions, and has a proclivity for making himself laugh. Michael majored in English at CNU after many semesters of business classes; he claims the switch made him an empathetic communicator. He enjoys crossword puzzles, travel, and scrutinizing maps but most of his time away from work is spent playing with his three children. Michael is quick to opt for a Superb IPA but points to the Brewers Series as the types of beers that drew him to Alewerks.

Senior Brewer
Doug Smith, now in his tenth year with Alewerks Brewing Company, has grown alongside the brewery through nearly every stage of production. Starting in packaging, Doug became Alewerks’ first cellarman before advancing to become the company’s first in-house trained brewer—an accomplishment he considers one of his proudest professional achievements, alongside being named Employee of the Year. As Senior Brewer, Doug is known for his exceptional work ethic, meticulous organization, and uncompromising focus on cleanliness and consistency. Originally from Hanover, Pennsylvania, and now based in Williamsburg, Doug is driven by his passion for the craft beer community and the satisfaction of hearing customers enjoy the beer he helps create. Outside the brewery, he’s a devoted fan of the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Capitals—and admits he can’t get a good night’s sleep without the hum of a fan for white noise.
Production Manager
Issac Peglow brings nearly a decade of professional brewing experience to his role as Production Manager, beginning his career in 2016 after completing formal brewing studies through the Siebel Institute of Technology and World Brewing Academy. With experience in both small- and large-scale production, he specializes in recipe development, brand innovation, and team leadership, including creating award-winning beers and exclusive IPA brands for professional National Hockey League and National Football League venues in the Northeast. Originally from Milroy, Pennsylvania, Issac is driven by a passion for fermentation science and mentoring the next generation of brewers. Outside of work, he enjoys saltwater fishing and listening to the Astonishing Legends podcast during his lengthy commute while he relocates to the Williamsburg area.

Taproom Manager
A Pennsylvania native with a passion for great beer and even better hospitality, Jenna leads the taprooms at Alewerks with a strong focus on customer service and community. Whether pouring a Superb IPA or a crisp Weekend Lager, Jenna takes pride in creating a welcoming experience for every guest. When not at the brewery, you can find her paddle boarding or enjoying quality time with family.
